New York Fashion Week Spring 2019

New York Fashion Week Spring 2019

That’s a wrap on the New York Fashion Week Spring 2019 shows, and you know what that means: Fashion Fabrics Club’s annual round up of the hottest trends from the designer runways.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2019Golden Hour

Soft pastels give way to big, bold hues for spring 19, the most prominent shade being a vivid marigold that feels both royal and romantic. We’re seeing designers use it head to toe with lots of layers in drapey fabrics like chiffon and silk to play up the dramatic effect.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2019Oh Hey, Crochet

Many designers showed their affection for handcraftsmanship, featuring unique pieces that even if they were not entirely made by hand, were certainly inspired by the look of the traditional craft. Crochet in particular was a popular pick, sure to reign among the beaches and seaside villas of the most fashionable come next spring.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2019Power Suits

While this season we’re seeing strong, angular suits inspired by the power suits of the late 1980s (shoulder pads and all), the suit seems to take a modern, deconstructed turn for spring ‘19 that looks more to the future than to the past. Reimagined silhouettes like cutouts, wrap blazers, and skirts with trousers in classic suiting materials make for a whole new look for being on duty.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2019Tie Dye

A nod to the past shone through the runways in the form of nostalgic tie dye—a possible indication of designers’ optimism for bringing the peace-and-love attitude it represented in the ‘60s into 2019. From subtle tie dye to full-blown rainbow, the runways offered many ways to rock this throwback trend.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2019Oversized Shirtdress

The shirtdress has been a spring/summer essential for years, but for spring 2019 it gets an oversized, slouchy makeover that feels much more relaxed and somehow more luxurious than the more traditional tailored silhouette. Whether in laid-back linen or crisp cotton, it was apparent that designers are partial to using clean white for this new go-to.

All White Everything

All White Everything

Now we don’t usually condone ignoring the rules, but we do believe that creating a show-stopping outfit sometimes means breaking a fashion rule or two. This season, we’re all about breaking the age-old rule of no white after Labor Day. Check out these killer looks Fashion Fabrics Club rounded up and copy them immediately.

Chances are you have a pair of crisp white denim jeans that you wore on repeat this summer, but don’t pack them away with the swimsuits and sundresses yet—paired with a boyfriend button up in casual white linen, they can take you straight through fall.

This is a look that can seamlessly go from boardroom to bar, for those days when there’s just no time for an outfit change pit stop. Both pieces—a lightweight white cotton sweater and white twill wide-leg trousers—are fairly casual, but together have a feeling of sophistication that’s perfect for fall.

If you’re looking for something a little fancier that can easily go from day to night, try this white chiffon pleated skirt and white crepe blouse ensemble. It’s just the thing for brunches, morning meetings, after-work drinks, date-night dinners, pretty much anything on your calendar this fall!

All white everything doesn’t automatically mean a layered look. Case and point: this little white polyester shift dress. Perfect for those days when you hit snooze one too many times and have zero time to outfit plan, simply toss on this one-piece wonder with a pair of statement shoes and you’re ready for anything from giving a presentation to attending a late night party.

If you don’t want to worry about matching up white separates but still want to achieve the look of separates, a white silk jumpsuit is the perfect way for you to rock the all-white look. To make it cold-weather appropriate, simply toss on a chunky white sweater and flats.

All White EverythingAll White Everything

Though the rules about wearing white after Labor Day are no longer a thing, it’s still a great excuse to break out all your white this weekend. Layer on your favorite summer whites—white cotton T (extra points for a cool graphic), white denim cutoffs, and top it all off with a blazer in crisp white suiting fabric to keep things classy.

Swing dressSwing dress

A sweet little swing dress in polyester crepe makes an easy task of the summer style hustle, appropriate for nearly anything on the social agenda from festivals to seaside strolls. Expert tip: To take this essential piece into cool-weather season simply add a long sleeved T underneath, a pair of tights, and chic pair of booties. Done and done.

GinghamGingham

Summer’s quintessential pattern, gingham, is just the thing for all your Labor Day weekend festivities. For dressier occasions, go for an all-over gingham print dress with a pair of heels and for more laid-back events, pair a cute gingham tank with a pair of white denim skinnies and sandals.

fall 2018 fashion trend report

Fall 2018 Trend Report

As summer starts to wind down, Fashion Fabrics Club takes a look forward to next season’s biggest trends to help you get your wardrobe in check for the fall season.

Fall Trends 2018 - PlaidPlaids

Next season we’re seeing a reinvention of classic plaid. Instead of the typical subdued, earthy shades it’s being turned out in big, bold hues inspired by the “more is more” fashion of the ‘80s. And it’s not just in blazers, it’s being used in pants, tops, skirts, dresses, nearly everything.

Fall Trends 2018 - wide leg trousersWide-Leg Trousers

From vacation-ready cropped culottes to office-worthy high-waisted trousers, the wide leg trend is having a major moment right now and we see no signs of it slowing down in fall. The fabrics will just be a bit heavier, think: tweeds, heavy twills, thick denim, etc.

Fall Trends 2018 - MetallicsMetallics

Shiny textiles and metallic fabrics are going to be all the rage next season. No matter what your styles, there’s a way for you to play to the trend from whimsical sparkle-clad tulle skirts to fierce, futuristic looking metallic bomber jackets.

Fall Trends 2018 - Fuzzy AccentsFuzzy Accents

The evolution of the fur trend for next season is a little pared back compared to the bold, oversized furs we saw last year (not that we’re saying those will be going away this year). Extras like shearling vests, fur-trimmed jackets and boots, and fuzzy sweaters, bags and accessories will be adorning the looks of style mavens everywhere this fall.

But you’re in luck, Fashion Fabrics Club has rounded up a few looks that will work either way, so you can look your best without any worry.

Burgundy ChiffonBurgundy Chiffon

This burgundy chiffon midi dress is the perfect mix of fall and summer for a late August to September wedding. The deep burgundy color plays to fall’s darker palette while the flowy chiffon keeps things airy and light. Bring along a light pashmina for after sundown and you’re set for any temperature.

Dark Coral CrepeDark Coral Crepe

This piece embodies the best of summer dressing—a slouchy laid-back silhouette and pop of color—but thanks to a long hemline and extended sleeves, is still right on for the beginning of fall, too. Simply dress this dark coral crepe wrap up with shiny accessories to make is special occasion-worthy.

Floral ChiffonFloral Chiffon

If you’re looking for something with a floral punch without being overly summery, this piece is just the thing. The soft gray background makes the floral chiffon fall-appropriate while still being right on for the thick of summer.

Mustard SilkMustard Silk

Mustard yellow can look quite sophisticated when done up in the right way. Here, in a slinky silk dress it looks decidedly elegant, perfect for weddings that are on the more formal side of the spectrum. Plus, the silk will keep you cool if it’s hot and warm if it’s not.

Summer Sweaters

Summer Sweaters

As we head into the latter half of the season and temperatures start to dip when the sun goes down, summer sweaters (yes, that’s a thing!) become a wardrobe essential. Check out Fashion Fabrics Club’s recommendations on what lightweight fabrics to use to make the best sweaters for summer.

The Long Cardigan SweaterThe Long Cardigan

The Cropped SweaterThe Cropped Sweater

The crop top trend shows no signs of stopping, and it’s showing up in sweater form as we head into the new season. It’s the perfect mix of warm and cool for getting through in-between season.

The Loose Knit

The Loose Knit

This sweater combines breezy airiness with cozy comfort thanks to a loose sweater knit that teases a little skin exposure. This is just the thing to transform your tank-and-jeans summer look into a fall-ready ensemble.

The Short Sleeved SweaterThe Short Sleeved Sweater

If you’re not ready to dive into long sleeves quite yet (no judgement here), go for the short sleeved draped sweater in a loose sweater knit. It offers a little layer of warmth, but has enough slouch and openness to keep things airy and light.

The V-Neck SweaterThe V-Neck Sweater

An essential year round, the V-neck sweater makes for the perfect piece for transitioning from summer to fall. In luxe cashmere, it’s at the same time lightweight and extremely cozy—a major win for battling the temperamental late summer weather.

Bottoms up

Bottom’s Up!

Drawstring PantsDrawstring Pants

Let’s face it, looking polished when the weather is sticky and hot is not an easy task. Luckily, we’ve got just the thing to keep you in check: a pair of silky black rayon joggers with an easy drawstring waist. Pair with a silky blouse and barely there heels like this chic ensemble here and you’ve got a failsafe look that’ll keep you cool and looking professional.

Pack this piece on all your upcoming getaways. A stretchy black polyester skort takes all the guesswork out of getting dressed, it’s chic, super comfy and perfect for nearly any occasion. Pair with a graphic T for a casual look, or toss on a slinky top and heels to dress it up.

When you need to get out the door in 60 seconds or less and have had zero time to plan your look, reach for a chiffon midi skirt. Simply pair it with a classic white T and a pair of sandals, and you have yourself a killer look that appears as if you spent all morning getting ready (little do they know…).

Preppy Fashion Fashion Fabrics Club

Put a Little Prep in Your Step

Window shopping, antiquing, seaside strolls—sometimes summer outings call for a preppy look. Here are five cute looks you can copy right now, courtesy of your friends at Fashion Fabrics Club.

preppy Fashion

If you’re looking for a way to add a little prep to your office look, this is just the thing. The crisp cotton button up keeps things polished and professional while the seersucker skirt with its scalloped hem brings in the preppy whimsy.

This is the perfect preppy look for when the weather starts to cool. Start with classic khaki shorts, pair with a chambray button up and layer a nautical navy crew neck sweater (untucking the collar is totally up to you). Add a pair of boat shoes and you’re off!

Gingham and white denim make for an effortlessly chic preppy look that can go from day to night with ease.

For a preppy look that’s more on the unexpected side, you can take a lesson from this chic ensemble. Instead of bright popping prints, you can go for a romantic, moody floral print that feels sophisticated and feminine rather than overly girly. Then pair with a preppy top, like this peter pan collared button up to lighten things up.

A very sophisticated take on the preppy trend, this ensemble combines gingham cigarette pants with a lightweight cashmere Nantucket red sweater for the perfect drinks-on-the-roofdeck look.

Blazer + TeeBlazer + Tee

If you’re not totally ready to dive into the trend, here’s an easy way for you to dip your toe in. Start with one of your go-to looks, a simple graphic T and leggings for example, and simply toss on a bright pink blazer. If you’re feeling too conspicuous you can simple shed the top layer.

When turned out in a slouchy, relaxed style, somehow the boldness of hot pink gets dialed down, making it more appropriate for everyday wear. This hot pink silk maxi dress is a perfect example, a simple addition of a jean jacket and flat sandals and it’ll become even more casual friendly.

Bold + BolderBold + Bolder

If you really want to make a statement this summer, take a lesson from the celebs. Start with bold pink, then pair with an equally bold complementary shade for a look that’s sure to stop traffic. Here, the hot pink double-knit skirt is set off with an orange-red chiffon top—the perfect mix.

After days of exposure to the hot sun rays, sometimes your skin needs a little bit of a break. A cool way to keep your stems from baking is with a cute pair of white linen pants—super breathable and lightweight, you can barely even tell that you’re wearing them. Added bonus: they’re great for travel too, taking up virtually no space in the suitcase and looking chic even when wrinkled.

Jersey T-Shirt DressJersey T-Shirt Dress

There’s a reason why so many style mavens live in oversized cotton jersey T-shirts in the summer—they have a way of disguising perspiration stains, are incredibly breathable, and they’re soft and lightweight. Take that to the next level by simply elongating the hemline to make a cute cotton jersey T-shirt dress, eliminating the need to add bottoms, a major win in keeping you cool.
