Top Ten Trends Fall/Winter 2014
The fall/winter 2014 collections showed an eclectic mix of elements from ‘60s mod to military influences to eccentric furs. Here is a breakdown of the top ten trending themes that are sure to show up on the streets in the coming cool-weather months.
1. Head-to-Toe Knits
Chunky sweaters, sweater dresses, and even pants are being seen made from thick wool knit fabrics like orange/black knit wool coating and brown/black boiled wool coating for an all-over super comfortable knitted look.
2. ‘60s Mod
The swinging ‘60s are back in action this fall with the prevalence of mini-skirts and trapeze dresses made from authentic ‘60s prints in combination with solid pastel colored fabrics like pastel yellow sweater knit and pastel blue jersey knit.
3. Bold Geometrics and Optic Prints
Angular prints like Blue/black double knit, turquoise green/black jersey knit, and black/white stripe jersey knit creating hypnotic images and optical illusions in bright, bold contrast colors are finding popularity in dresses, jackets and pants this fall/winter.
4. Flowing Feminine Frocks
The flirty, flouncy slip dress that was so popular this spring and summer continues its trend into fall/winter with added sleeves and in flowing fabrics like black floral chiffon, red/black stripe chiffon and green/black print chiffon. It is being paired with boots to make it cool-weather appropriate.
5. Gold Rush
Gold is a continuing style element for this fall and winter, whether in an all-over color or making a print on a black fabric like black/gold cheetah double knit.

Menswear inspired suiting in a spectrum of solid gray suiting fabrics and black suiting fabrics was a consistent theme in many of the fall/winter designer collections for this year. Over-sized blazers and wide-legged trousers being particularly popular elements.

Cargo pockets, camouflage and khaki green fabrics like khaki wool gabardine, khaki green twill and khaki green corded cotton suiting show a military-inspired influence in jackets, sweaters and pants for this fall and winter.

Luxurious velvet fabrics like black stretch velvet, black velvet, and black crushed velvet are popular for the upcoming seasons, especially in slinky, seductive dress styles.
9. Eccentric Fur
Thick, super soft furs like bright red faux fur, gray fur bolt, white fur bolt, are being used to make super comfortable, super warm jackets for the coming cold weather seasons.

Unsurprisingly, leopard continues to be a trending print for this fall and winter. It is particularly popular in thick faux fur fabrics like brown/sand animal print fabric and beige faux fur in outerwear garments.
